Entrancing’ gothic mystery
Justin Blake receives an invitation from his old schoolmate Tom Temple to join him for the Christmas holidays in Yorkshire, which he accepts. Though he is customarily not quite a ladies’ man, he falls instantly in love with Miss Forrest, one of the guests, who he has already met on the train journey. However, he has a rival in the mysterious Herod Voltaire and finds that he must fight Voltaire’s influence and his ‘weapons of mystery’.
