Best Fairy Tales comprises some of Andersen’s well-known stories published between 1835 and 1875. These children’s tales were the first of their kind. Andersen created wonderful worlds through his simple narrative style, his knack for animating common objects and the pure emotions and ideas that he introduced his readers to. His stories, with autobiographical elements, also spoke up for the oppressed and outcast, such as in ‘The Ugly Duckling’. The tales have had a huge impact on children’s literature, especially on British authors like Lewis Carroll, A. A. Milne and Beatrix Potter.
